We've recently discovered what most of you probably already knew -
the greatness of Thomas Edison.
Oh sure, we already appreciated some of his inventions,
but we didn't know he could tickle our funny bone so frequently.
Does that make us a little bit nerdy?
Well.... we all probably knew that too.
His biography inspired us to make a telegraph machine.
Although Edison didn't invent the telegraph he had a fascination with it,
and since he got his start through it, we did it in his honor.
It was probably a better choice than recreating his invention of the electric chair.
But, I'm not equally as sure that it took less time-
What with all that driving around to find the, 'Ideal Spot',
Stripping the wires,
Digging the trench,
Laying the wire,
Burying the wire,
Making a rope ladder for the tree next to the receiver,
(I don't really know what the rope ladder next to the tree is for-
Maybe for when the signal is lost in a storm they can send messages by lantern)
Climbing the rope ladder,
(over, and over, and over)
Repurposing an old birdhouse for the batteries and receiver,
Making the actual receiver,
(Yes, indeed, this part is very complicated - thank you for noticing)
And finally they were done!
Thank Heavens for genius inventors like Edison!
It would really cramp our style to have had to YELL our message across-
the entire 100 ft.
And thank heavens for Calder,
for taking my spot in this experiment.
Without him we may have had to stick with the electric chair-
it simply required two buckets of water for your feet,
and a current.
